Absolutely .....
True .... I do Linux Desktop setups for my COMMERCIAL customers. All the system's come in here FIRST and are fully configured with SLACKWARE no less. All settings and drivers are installed and tested before the machine is released. Even the latest kernel is installed and configured to suit the machine and VMWARE installed to run the Windows Tx that came with the machine.

FWIW, I do this for a flat fee of $150 USD per machine.

OEM's could be doing the same, but I dont' seem the see them putting forth any effort at all to do this ....
