Have to disagree with the missing tip.
I've never had to re-install Windows. I ran Windows 2000 until January 2007 without a
single re-install. My Vista system has been running fine without a re-install. My work
XP system is on its original install.

If you really think Microsoft's recommendations won't have any effect then how will
re-installing Windows help? They're different ways of achieving the same goal:
Cleaning up the "gunk".
