No lights
No lights is a bummer when you are troubleshooting. No nic lights means you can't tell at a glance if you have a network connection. No hard drive light means when you think the machine is locked up or you get the pinwheel for a long time, you can't tell if there is some disk activity-unless you have a noisy drive. Those lights do save some simple steps.
