- Where's the meat?
- Give us some specifics. You could at least summarize the changes from 7.04. One thing that's always bugged me about Linux is user interface consistency, fonts in particular are not implemented as well as in Windows, and can differ from app to app. The latest versions of Gnome and KDE have fixed a lot of these issues, but case in point is Firefox. Usually the fonts for the menu bar in Firefox have no relation to those used in KDE or Gnome. Have they fixed this bug.. maybe it's a feature by now. Another thing that always bugs me is changing screen resolution from within the windows manager. If the resolution is not listed in the xorg configuration file (eg. 1280x1024), then you have to manually edit the configuration file and restart X, THEN you can change the resolution. Wow, what a system. Windows has let you change the screen resolution since Windows 95, which was what, 12 years ago? Has Gutsy Gibbon fixed that bug? Also another thing that frustrates me about Ubuntu adn other linux distros is when you try and de-install a software package. The package manager inists on de-installing all the dependencies too, and give you a list of programs that it needs to de-install as well, invariably including basic libraries and nice-to-have stuff like Gnome. Wow, thanks guys. So sometimes I am unable to de-install software, so it clutters up the system for ever, until the next disk wipe. Anybody else run into problems like this? And yet Adrian trumpets the latest operating system flavor of the month like it was a salvation to all our problems. Well OK, if you say so.
