What about the target audience?
You mentioned the Linux effect, but the mass-market, family media friendly user base that Apple is aiming for probably haven't really heard of Linux, and their exposure to Macs come from the adverts, iTunes + iPods and seeing them in pretty much every US TV show as the laptops and desktops being used.

I agree with the point about Macs and 'fun stuff'. That advert has made me making disapproving 'tut tut' sounds under my breath for a while now.

Macs are still very expensive for what they are, and a lot of people can't really see what the point is if you're not into photos and media. They haven't really penetrated big business which is what they need to truly up their market share.

When it comes right down to it, the people being targeted don't really know who Steve Jobs is, so I agree with you on the point that he is effectively preaching to the converted.

On the other hand, I'm planning on getting a MacBook Pro at some point as I do a lot of business travelling and it's a good a place as any to start! wink
