Keep in mind that Ubuntu is based on Debian, which is the all-the-way-to-the-limit software libre-only distribution. Reading between the lines, Shuttleworth has been catching flack from the hard-core Debian faithful and decided to give them what they've been asking for: a pure-libre version of Ubuntu.

Useful? Not part of the job description.
