I actually had very little trouble with ME
My wife bought a Sony laptop preloaded with it (behind my back) which has been the only breach of the MS-boycott in my household since it was instigated in 1996. Clearly the experiences of others, though, suggests that we were the exception, not the rule.

My experience with Vista, though, would suggest that "fast" is not a good word to describe it. I recently helped one of my neighbors with a Vista preload and it seemed awfully sluggish for a new machine.
