The only interest would be for multilanguage keyboards or layout that are not found on traditional markets for some scripts. But is it worth the value?
Given the high price, it won't be able to reach the intended audience (the poorest countries that use scripts rarely supported by software or hardware)
Also, why choosing the most expensive technology for the matrix displays?
* There are now cheap LCD and LED technologies. OLED is definitely not the best solution.
* color display on keyboard, why that?
And finally, the construction is not so cute to see: the raised borders will not make typing easy on it.
Really, there will be better keyboards with more traditional forms for the top of the key; the flat display is a poor solution, when the molded plastic could have adopted the normal forms.
The 32x32 display will be too limited to repreoduce the characters that are normally present on existing keyboards (it will allow displaying only one character), but also complex scripts like Han ideographs.
Really, consider the small color LCD displays available on mobile phones, their construction is very cheap now, and allow very cost effective mass production without any pixel defect. For the controler part, the various LCD displays can be multiplexed like they are on a classic screen; this just requires the same technology used on single larger screens.
I have also doubts about the mechanical keyboard response dur to the necessary connector to connect each display on keytops.
Regarding the price, it will necessarily lower very soon even before it is marketed. Those prices are only announced for what is currently a prototype. And the actual form of the keyboard has also lots of time to change before it is actually produced. So I see that only as a demonstration keyboard for investors. The price means nothing. - Posted by: PhilippeV Posted on: 03/20/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
