I don't find any excitement in a dog humping a football. But as to your point of specifics, you can go talk to your commrades here that have dissed Windows so heavily it's become totally acceptable to post far worse that I did and not have anyone say a word about it. Never from the Linux crowd.
Thing is, these same people and there are hundreds if not thousands of them here on zdnet have pumped linux up to be SO much better than Windows, and windows to be the biggest POS on earth that my expectations of Linux were immediately set very high. I found that it disappointed those expectations heavily and Windows to still be all around much better imho. I didn't find it overly user friendly or intuitive. I didn't find the kind of applications that use daily available for any distro I looked at and I found it to be far buggier than I was led to believe. Again, I was led to believe all linux distros are iron clad secure and the very few bugs they contain are fixed almost instantly. I'm not exaggerating. I came here a few years ago hoping to supplement Google searches and get more involved with interaction on problems I encounter, what others have done and I walked into nothing but a giant flame war that rages daily. I've become jaded and honestly I guess since Windows takes the most heat on zdnet (I've proven this satisfactorily with google searchs and the polls zdnet conducts and it's just plain obvious to anyone coming here fresh with no biases) I've decided to stand up for it since there is a world full of great people that either work for Microsoft, work with microsoft dev tools, or just trying to be the best they can be at their given job using ms tools like Office to do things they could not do with any other software. These are great people that write books about using and programming Windows from around the world, analysts, contractors and on and on....as good a bunch of people as anyone could reasonably expect a decent, many times God fearing and family oriented, hardworking person to be, and the linux radicals don't stop with dissing MS they have to go over the line tha dis the entire user population day in and day out, equating them to evil or absolutly stupid people.
As for Linux representatives I respect Linux Torvalds and his approach and feelings that the FSF and way too many in the linux community are radicals that want everyone to bow to their OS God and the only way is their way and oss. You see so much of anti proprietary software preaching on here with vulgar comments on anyone that does use proprietary method that it's sickening. They are products on the market. I don't feel they should be forced by entities like the EC, which is by definition a government appointed monopoly on the law, to start using a different business model or give up their IP for free. Democratic socialism has never proven to be an ideal economic model and we only see high unemployement, high taxes and large welfare programs in nations or unions that employ it over free market capitalism.
To compete is on thing, but to constantly spread hatred and run smear campaigns inside organizations with exempt tax statuses is just plain wrong. That is using government money, or the relaxation of government taxes, to run smear campaigns like the FSF and their websites that are trying to take out Vista.
Windows is a great system with many strengths and can be used along with Linux, but if the FSF has their way there will never be a possibility of that. Hopefully the more objective and sane among us will win out but it doesn"t look good so far when you tally the fsf supporters on here and other places that are now against Novell cause they are working with Microsoft.
