Zoom external modems work with ubuntu.
Also with SUSE and Freespire.
I have had trouble with internal modems but my zoom is recognised and works well.
High speed modems seem to just work in the 3 linux systems I have used.
Ubuntu is the only one that I was able to get to recognise my D-link wireless network.
I must admit I like Suse the best but have now moved to Ubuntu because of the network situation.
All can be made to play films.
Ubuntu has a very easy to use ,repository program that allows easy access to the the missing plugins for movie playback.
I look forward to the next version.
Also Ubuntu will be offering the Linspire one clickSoftware installation program soon which will really improve the operating system for people like myself with limited command.line experience .
