Video cards require driver support
The problem with most versions of Linux and video cards is the fact that the manufacturers are not supporting their cards with drivers that are based on Linux platforms. Nvidia is one manufacturer who has decided to start with a limited number of linux drivers that are compatable with some linux distros but check to find out which ones. I'm running Xandros Professional 4.0 which is a full version of linux which is Debian based but Xandros is not compatable with all Debian based software as it is much like Mac which requires it's own fodder. Xandros does have drivers that will run Nvidia cards but generally speaking,
video card drivers come with the cards and are some version of Windows. If the same support was there for Linux, Windows would have a much smaller support group as does Linux. Xandros did install both Nvidia 7900 GT cards with no help or input from me.
The limited software available to take advantage of these cards makes the cost questionable anyway. The graphical interface is quite impressive and everything seems to work smoothly.
