That is your choice. Like anyone, you put a price on your time and effort and weigh it against the tools you are going to need. Apparently you are a whiz-bang programmer, so you keep up on the latest security holes. I didn't realize your initial post was satirical. I thought you were posting as an expert on lactose-based programming and clown attire. After all, you made it so clear that your inflammatory remarks were all in jest.
That is great that you find one environment easier to work in. I'm sure you just sat down one day and started getting things done lickety-split. No learning curve, no frustration, money well spent. I'm not sure I buy some of your broad claims, but you appear to know your stuff.
What I've seen is Linux mature on the desktop. Windows took a lot of hits (and still does) for many years regarding its bugs. Linux is playing catch up and that is tough. While the release of the latest version of any distro deserves little fanfare, what it deserves less is childish mockery for being an alternative to those of us that don't run a company or program. We don't make money with our computer environment, we just try to get by.
What is frustrating to some of us is having to lay down $1000 every 5 years or so because we've discovered that the OS that we have been using is insecure and cannot be updated without replacing every component in our case. Instead, we look for alternatives to keep the hit to our pocketbooks lower. After all, we just want to get on the Internet, play a few games, listen to some music, and collect photos. Computer problems are a fact of life, but some of us can't afford to pay for them both ways.
I'm not Microsoft vs. Linux. I'm for tools that do the job at a lower price. I'm not saying I won't pay for anything. Total cost of ownership has been argued a lot of ways; money, time, and stress. Every organization has different needs and wants. If Windows fits the bill, then so be it. If Linux has the apps that do the job, maybe better. That's the whole point of having a choice. You make yours and we'll make ours. There is no need for cheap jabs in response to a photo gallery of a latest release of an OS that you don't even use.
No, I don't understand at all. - Posted by: Adam S Posted on: 04/12/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
