You obviously don't understand
Frustration is often more costly than money. There is a point where you have to say, this is worth spending money on. Like anything in life, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

If I can get more value out of something that cost me 69 bucks preinstalled, than something I have to download and install myself and get it working for all of my devices, go through all of that pain and then still not have an OS as powerful as XP or Vista, why bother? XPSP2 and Vista have great programming tools and the .NET runtime is awesome for getting very complex apps up and running with mimimal effort. The built in support for Active Directory and Group policy and many other industry leading networking tools is worth the cost. It pays for itself in short order since once you buy it, you are done for the life of the OS. Not another nickel of cost. Where a free OS like Ubuntu may be OK....but it's not going to do the things a windows machine can do...and you may end up spending more depending on your situation.

Another thing is I'm quite positive it's illegal to populate a company with free OSes. I don't know any compliance minded company that would do so due to the legality of it and whether their is anyone standing behind the OS to support it and all of the apps and things you want to do with it on a variety of servers etc.

My original post was intended as satirical, as you always see a number like that on any article directly about a Windows OS. Start paying attention to the vast numnber of posts that use terms like M$, windoze, microsucks, microshill, evil, bloatware, full of holes, security suks etc etc etc.

The thing is, ubuntu is no less bloated or bugfree than XP. And Vista has blown it away in terms of number of bugs reported in the last 4 months.
