it's not surprising...
I've never heard of Navigon before. So I did a little looking around. I found teo very short comments about three models Navigon released in 2008. The 8100T at $599 (http://www.nerdgrind.com/navigon-releases-8100t-navigator-calls-it-uber-premium/) and two affordable devices both only at Radio Shack (http://www.nerdgrind.com/navigon-releases-5100-max-and-2090s-gps-units-exclusively-at-radio-shack/).

Seems to me that it's not a price issue, it's more of a distribution channel issue. The low end units should have been released at a broader range of retailers. I don't see a problem with high end devices as long as there are entry level ones available to a broad range of buyers.
