Microsoft Trumps Google in Intuit QuickBooks??
This good follow up missed important points about how to solve QuickBooks problems and how to solve small business problems.

The Inside Intuit book shows that the key to Intuit has always been being ready to fight Microsoft and decisively winning all their fights. Intuit. Microsoft and Google all want to make money and add functionality and users. QuickBooks - Microsoft Office links have long been outstanding. QuickBooks long ago showed Microsoft how to make Word mail merge easy. The Outlook sync is new, but it will not stop further Intuit - Microsoft fights.

On the other hand, Intuit and Google practically share a parking lot. Bill Campbell, the Chairman and ex-CEO of Intuit, has long been the top Google management consultant. QuickBooks users may never appreciate this, but it should soon be the best thing that ever happened to them.

CPAs and professional bookkeeping firms increasingly scan documents instead of filing paper. The free Google Desktop, included in QuickBooks, is the fastest, easiest and least costly way to find documents and related QuickBooks, email, Word, Excel and other data. Even small CPA firms like mine can save more than $20,000 a year by not manually indexing or filing. We simply keep a 31 pocket accordian folder by the scanner for each month and convert all scans to PDF image on text files. This lets us instantly retrieve the exact data we need, without lost documents. We can even use the special secure Intuit version of Google Desktop to automatically search multiple computers at different locations.

This shows why Google is the king of search technology. Intuit is the king of small business accounting. QuickBooks market share at retail INCREASED from 88% to 92% since Microsoft introduced its third failed "QB killer" (Microsoft's words, not mine). This seems to relate to Intuit previously delaying impropvements to avoid anti-trust problems. intuit should gain even more after Vista Service Pack 1 (August 28??), as many older QuickBooks users will upgrade.

Intuit CEO Steve Bennett accurately said that the Intuit - Google ad partnership has not yet produced big revenue. It will take time for many QuickBooks users to fully appreciate and use the free Google Desktop, the free QuickBooks - Google directory listing and the paid Google Ad-Words listing. However, this is the fastest and easiest way to advertise, so it should become increasingly dominant. Over time Inuit revenues could easily double, with very big profits.

There also is a QuickBooks Everywhere (Meetup.com) interface to the free Craigslist.com. This, the many QuickBooks add-ons, plus the ease of use of the QuickBooks ad interface, makes me expect that there will soon be QuickBooks posting tools for many ad sites. Finally, once "tax season" is over CPAs and other QuickBooks ProAdvisors will begin to get the word out to our clients
