One Man's Poison...
Let's see: 9 million clients - all students and professors; assume a majority are students... say only 7 million students in the heart of Madison Avenue's hardest-to-reach demographic - all of whom signed up for a social networking service that offered some modicum of privacy - were abandoned without prior notice or an opt-out opportunity? now need a similar, semi-private communication forum leveraged soley on ad revenues. Is anyone out there listening? Google, Yahoo, MS? Electronic Arts (now there's a synergistic pairing)? A million or so of these customers sound annoyed enough that they'd walk for a one-off with enhanced security options. A million. I rather suspect this issue won't remain a problem very long... But Zuckerberg and the VC's won't give a toot; they'll sign up another 10 million new clients - and many of those who bail won't terminate their Facebook subscriptions. Win-Win-Win. But who will grab the business - old blood or new?
