I don't understand 1 comment by Guthrie

Downloading an application and running it fully trusted for business-to-consumers scenarios -- I just don't see as big an opportunity for it.

There will certainly be some places where you do it. Instant messaging is certainly going to be one, offline email might be another. But I don't see a market where there are tens of thousands of sites where you're going to feel comfortable running untrusted code on your system.


I don't understand. Don't a lot of people download software from MS' various web sites and install them on their computers? Isn't iTunes immensely popular? Don't most ISVs distribute desktop software from their web sites? It is true that people aren't going to casually install applications from web sites they are not familiar with. But there are thousands of web sites out there that have regular visitors who have developed a trust for the web sites, and who would download desktop applications if they thought they worth worth it.
