MS Developer Requires Sandbags
Ryan is spot on with this. As a Microsoft developer, CS3 is the tidal wave I have been fearing for a long time and unless MS can come up with something tremendous very soon, we (meaning MS developers) are about to get washed away. There are too many big holes in the WPF offering at present to sandbag the water.

With MS having the dominant OS and browser, I don't think there's a problem if the RIA platform is entirely Windows based, at least for now (N.B. for non-trusted connections), but it does need to be very deployable and it does need to be HTML/ASP.NET embeddable for search. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there ain't no point on making the WPF/e's primary language focus JavaScript right now when Flash and ActionScript are to hand. C# developers are just not going to wade thro' reams of XAML (some nice with...end with construct would be better) and it's ridiculous to consider script#. Designers ain't going to wade thro' XAML either. .NET languages must surely be able to connect XBAP front and back ends - maybe with a minimal .NET runtime on the client.

Unfortunately for XBAP, many browser restrictions appear to negate the obvious rich Windows advantage - I hope I'm right here but drag and drop, file upload and dialogue boxes are a problem.

MS really do need a compelling deployment mechanism for WPF and I think uncles Bill & Steve are going to have to get the troops on this with all haste otherwise CS3 is going to wash the Windows UI off the screen in most places.
