less than a year is a disaster
If true, it is absolutely incredible that WPF/e is not shipping 1st time around with C#. I can't believe it will be that big a job for Adobe to add a vectorised markup to their products. What's going to be the compelling reason for designers to make the change then? And keeping developers out of the frame for up to a year means developers can't create a 'wow' that'll be the envy of designers. Every day Adobe steal more UI space where it counts, and the garden path leads all the way to the rich desktop app. MS might be working on the mistaken belief that is's a good thing to keep developers 'on the edge' with ASP.NET, AJAX and WPF/e (check out Mix '07) whilst reserving WPF for Office, unless something's up the sleeve. Personally I think the Windows UI is going to become irrelevant unless that's the case - like it or not, they need 3rd party devs to support the framework. The only alternative to WPF/e I can see is an improved XBAP model, UI virtualisation or some kind of XAML streaming, and a searchable one too. Nobody's going to MSI Install or Click Once lots of little apps from the Internet.
