About time
The java guys should have been on flex a long time ago, Macromedia could have made the pricing more competitive and beat MS to the rich-client punch.

Recently, my company which is mostly a big eclipse/java/linux shop was dealing with a large defection of java devs to .Net Smart Clients. The defection was largely do to tools like VS2005, CAB and Infragistics, so the architects tried to put the hammer down. That didn't work, so the archrs had to come up with a comparable alternative, comparable in productivity and other economic metrics laid down by the devs.

Their answer was eclipse RCP, but it took them a while and the devs moved on. Eclipse RCP is now the recommended platform because its open, but the defection continues.

With the great tool support and UI component partners Eclipse/Flex/Flash could edge out .Net Smart Clients, but now here comes WPF.

So the war continues....
