- RE: Clearly Microsoft is aiming at real developers
- The Cider plugin for WPF is pretty good. There are still lots of things it doesn't support, like custom user controls, but all you get is a warning. I've found that I started off jumping between the same project in VS2005 and Blend because I was using Blend to generate the code for things like templates/skins which are hundreds of lines long, and get instant visual feedback, but VS for everything else. The integration between the two needs to be improved as technically there isn't any, but it's a viable workflow. My worry with blend is that some of the code it generates is very verbose for no real reason, and a lot of times you get the "unable to render xaml" message. At this point this shows it is not a designer tool, you have to really know where you went wrong in the hundreds of lines of XAML to fix it (without intellisense) so it can properly render the content again. So I would say Expression Design is a designer tool, Blend is a tool for those who want basic XAML generation for the grunt work like skinning and some keyframe animation, but VS is for 80% of their time overall.
