Maybe CoreJava?
What's really needed is for Flash to take the core fundamentals of Java and incorporate it as a replacement for ActionScript and its runtime environment. This new step makes it possible - although still unlikely. Only then would we have an RIA platform that scales from a small download - with the potential to scale up to a platform with full Java, in full trust with Flash as the presentation tier.

I think this matches Microsoft's strategy - with the CoreCLR (http://technosloth.blogspot.com/2006/07/coreclr-at-wwdc.html) scaling up to full blown .NET 3. For the sake of competition let's hope Adobe pick this up.
