My school teaches...
... web design in the conventional way. Intro classes cover HTML, CSS, using JQuery modules or writing basic js. Advances classes teach PHP and such. None of the classes I know of cover CMS.

I had a summer internship where I used Drupal. I didn't do any of the initial set up, and in fact most of my work was CSS (with some PHP thrown in), but it seemed like it would be something that would resonate more with most people than traditional web design. True, it takes work to really personalize it and differentiate yourself, but it makes managing content so much easier (go figure).

I think the idea of teaching CMS in classes is a good one. On the other hand, though, traditional intro classes give you a strong and useful background to start from. I don't think CMS courses should replace intro classes, but offering them sounds like it could be a great idea.
