- You don't want 2003 if....
-
there is any way you can get the hardware you think you need to run 2008. And now with R2 coming out you may not need the hardware you think you need. 2003 has issues. Be sure to do your homework.
I recently upgraded my 2000 AD domain to 2008. I'm using a 2nd generation Opteron, which was kind of long in the tooth when I bought it but it has what I need, and 4GB DDR2-800 with SCSI 320 drives. This wasn't all that expensive and runs 2008 like a charm. If I was doing it again I might choose VelociRaptor SATA drives instead of the SCSI and saved a few bucks.
BTW, 2008 no longer has a License manager so you are on the honor system that you have bought the correct number of CAL's. I spent half a day trying to figure out how to install licenses. I even called MS but the price of support scared me off. I finally found a thread in a MS forum regarding this. I was a bit surprised that MS would let you use the honor system. - Posted by: bjbrock Posted on: 08/21/09 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
