Precisely my opinion. This way, everyone benefits.

The student, because he has more powerful hardware at his disposal, has some computing redundancy if one machine breaks down, and has to carry less weight around.

The teachers, because they can make normal eye contact with the student during class, as the netbook lid is smaller than a laptop lid.

And not in the least you, because you probably have to spend less money. If not in the short term, then certainly in the longer term, because the average desktop will outlive the average notebook by a couple of years.
