Just get a Nokia
I have a satchel that I throw in the boot of my Subaru whilst up in the Adirondacks with a Nokia N800 and Nokia N95 schmartphone (predecessor to N96->N97), and a foldout bluetooth keyboard (Stowaway).

Depending on your threshold of pain, using the keyboard with the N95 running a TV-out to a Display and Skyfire works fine also with mentioned BT keyboard.

(Skyfire browser is the ticket but only runs on Windows Mobile CE and Symbian devices.)

Also when out in remote locations, it is good to have in your car a 'power inverter' keep your gadgetry fully-charged.

And with Nokia Maps and an 8GB SanDisk to store a map of the U.S., you'll never get lost with assisted GPS.

Rip a movie from your DVD with Super and bring it with you to watch on your Nokia N800/810 or N95 in the small confines of a tent or cabin (both of which use the same TI ARM OMAP multi-core processor and plays movies with DivX or Real at 25FPS).

Thanks and watch for those aggressive Squirrels while you are out there in the wilderness.
