it might be abused for direct messaging, but for a generalized discussion, it's a useful tool.

But going to phpbb.com and setting up a bulletin board for the school woudl be another useful tool as well for debate teams. Teachers can maintain them and students will discuss topics and be limited to certain channels. Also, they hold private topics where Twitter is public to everyone. A BB system also maintains older posts. So if someone is posting alot, you would need to view them more frequently.

Next, students and teachers won't have to go to class, the students could just download their podcast. Kind of like Real Genius where the teacher had a player and all the students had tape recorders.
