Not bad, but one key ingredient missing
IBM and Sun have fought tooth and nail for years, for the a core motivation technology -
over the supposed java-based Media framework, mainly the codecs. For some time in
the early days, everything was cool with IBM providing a lot of the meaty complicated
stuff. But Sun, ever they be so humble, controlled the actual open source JMF. So, let's
see, that was waaayyy back around 2k (or something, I don't know). It's a decade later
and coming to a head. For the youngsters, that was when JDK 1.x was a nightmare to do
more than just push a (very slow loading) applet to the browser/desktop. And JMF was
pushed as the "option" package.

The next question will be (hold your breath)... What will IBM do with JMF? We already
know the steep IBM MPEG-4 stuff and kits and voice technology have mostly been
transparent, and useless or too vexing (i.e. putting a budget dollar on it) for the open
source market.
