Don't listen to that last guy. He probably just beats his kids with a stick that says Windows on it, probably becasue all the dads he knows do the same thing.

But why would somebody use anything other than a garden variety word processor to take notes?

Sitting in class, to take notes you have to type flat out as fast as you can anyway. You aren't fiddling with some complex program -- just something simple.

Fortunately, everything starts up quickly on Linux machines -- you don't have to wait 5 minutes for bootup (as you would with a Windows machine) -- by then the class would be half over!
