- It's no wonder that people can't write!

Half the teachers out there can't write, either. Worse, there are no unified standards on what is correct, and the standards that are there change. When I was in college we were encouraged to use short (no more than 8 word) sentences and short paragraphs, too.
Worse than this, though, is the quality of writing done by some teachers. My kid has brought home letters from some of his teachers that make me wonder how they got a teaching job! Student manuals that I've seen are horrible, full of grammatical errors, misspellings, mismatched subjects and verbs, and sentences that make no sense at all.
