If you're more of a reader than a computer geek
the Kindle makes sense. There are advantages to electronic paper over LCD as long as you do not need the LCD's superior graphics, such as battery life (several days in fact) and size and weight. And if you are more into reading content than surfing (believe it or not, some people are) a single purpose device makes sense. And it's not as if you are limited to books.

The reason I don't have one is price, but if it were $200 I would get one in a heartbeat.
