A machinist does not have to kow how to repair the machine, but he/she must know how to work the machine in orderfor them to do the job. email, internet and web 2.0 is here to stay. It's about using the tools proficiently in order to promote learning. Yes, techies are needed to sort out technical problems, but basic stuff like searching the internet, understanding terminology like "toolbar" and knowing how to send attachments with emails is the responsibility of the teacher. We as teachers promote the idea of life learning, how does this attitude model life long learning. If I was a student and had this attitude, how far would I get - "I don't do maths because it will not further my life choice as a beach bum". Smart move!!!!
