There is a life philosophy...
It says that learning for learning's sake makes you a wiser person and capable of understanding the world a little better. If you stop learning, you cannot teach, you can only regurgitate and we know what a mess that makes. I think you have gotten to the root of the problem with our school systems. Apathy towards learning new things cannot fail to translate into apathy about teaching new things. Unfortunately, the world is constantly changing so that attitude is dooming out children. BTW, I can slaughter a cow (and have,) service my own car (within reason) and cut hair. I continue to learn every day...even if it is not my job. Perhaps you should broaden your horizons just a bit into your discomfort zone. You may discover you like it.
