Their job is to teach not technology.
Would you have them become proficient enough where your tech's job is no longer needed?

Any tech that is a proponent of your idea is just lazy. This is why tech jobs are available. Some users will need to be spoon fed forever and that is good job security for techs.

I eat beef but don't want to learn how to slaughter a cow. I like driving my car but don't want to know how to service it. I like a nice hair cut but don't want to learn to cut hair. etc, etc, etc.

I'm really surprised you even bring this up.
