I do not know Diigo, based on your post, it seems to fill very well your "social bookmarking" needs.
But, have you tried Twine? ( http://www.twine.com ) It is not mere a "social bookmarking" service, instead, it is a "Network of Interests" heavely focused on academic collaboration and with a practical aproach to wath the web will be (Web 3.0 or Semantic Web).
