As an educator...
my opinion carriers a bit of weight due to living in the trenches with the students.

Although the idea of a PDA type device to carry textbook information is both logical and practical in an ideal world. The world of education is currently far from ideal. The average student fails to bring pen, pencil, and paper to class everyday. And the special ed/504 student who has protections seldom brings their required materials. Therefore a high-tech gadget will be left in the locker, at home, or totally lost. Sadly the most we can do in public school is to complain about it, now we cannot even withhold grades for lossing or damaging school property.

This generation has never been held to being responsible; schools that have tried this using laptops have nearly become bankrupt.
