One place where it makes sense
Say you need something larger than a handheld but smaller than a laptop (netbooks fit the bill) in an environment where you have to hold the thing in one hand (nowhere to put it down or you are constantly on the move) and control it with your other. And typing isn't your primary input, but rather pointing, clicking and selecting radio buttons or drop downs. A multi-touch screen would be a much better input device than a trackpad in such an environment.

An example of this could be using it in an inventory warehouse. Or maybe a building inspector could use it to input data into a database form.
