Analyzing Data fromTests
Chris,

Download the openIntel data model from os4ed.com and
out your data in there for analysis using any of the
free reporting tools available. (BIRT, Pentaho,
Jasper, etc.) The data model was designed by Maurice
Frank, the creator of the IBM Insight at School
Education Data Warehouse solution. It is designed to
do exactly what you are trying to accomplish:
analysis over time. All you need to do is take the
data model documentation, map your SIS and test score
data to the data model and perform the ETL to move the
data into the model. The model will work on any
standard relational database software. We use
PostgreSQL as it is optimized for analysis and
currently handles the largest known database at Yahoo!
of 2 Petabytes.

For ETL, you can use the Pentaho Data Integrator tool,
free, and build repeatable routines that can be set to
run automatically. As the former solution manager for
the IBM Insight at School Education data warehouse and
a long time expert in data warehouse in education, I
can personally vouch for the openIntel data model and
the work of Maurice Frank who was my co-worker in the
effort to create and harden the IBM solution.

I will be happy to help you in any way I can. Feel
free to contact me offline through the os4ed.com
website or the opensis.com website.
