Oh, good, someone who actually knows the word "longitudinal" looking at these issues!

I always get annoyed at news reports reporting school progress/failure, because it's always clear that the reporter, at least, and probably the school, have no idea how to approach analyzing performance over time.

Here in California, we've seen what to my mind amounts to a scandal. We don't know our graduation rate, because we simply don't have the sort of tracking in place that can deal with transfers and other events. We get these inflated numbers that look at how many students who enter high school graduate from that high school, and we get guesses.

Good luck, and have fun! I hope you manage to educate a few people about statistics along the way!
