Finally...
...A voice of reason in ZDNet Talkback's socialist swamp!

Unfortunately, frgough, our opinions aren't popular here, because too many Talkbackers seem to believe the following:

1. Government is the solution to our problems,

2. We can therefore tax our way to utopia,

3. "Morality" is subjective and situational, so holding people to one definition of "morality" is therefore judgemental and wrong, and

4. Personal responsibility is an outdated concept, since the wished-for "nanny state" should make all of our decisions for us.

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. All of these beliefs are responsible for much of the degradation in modern society.

The past wasn't perfect (racism, sexism, etc. hampered us from reaching our potential), but we're learning from our mistakes.

Unfortunately we also seem to be abandoning what was good and constructive in the past as well, namely pride in one's self, personal and familial responsibility, self-sufficiency, and individual initiative.
