Sheperds nowhere to be found
Many of my university professors (I was in the college of engineering) had a poor grasp of the English language. One professor named Murata was jokingly called "MoreData" in light of the fact that his English was utter cr@p and hence your brain was left wanting to make out something that was coherent, hence the pun.

Back in my day, I learned university professors weren't so much there to teach but to focus on "research" and spending inordinate amounts of time seeking grants.

A friend of mine who years later sought his Phd (and got it) said he would have not done so if he had realized it (people in academia) was mostly about ego.

My experiences and that of my friend lent credence to the jokes "Piled higher & deeper" as well as "Those who can't, teach".

College is behind me and not something I dwell on at all really, but if things are as they were back when I was in school, I don't see the scenario you've talked about taking shape anytime soon.

As things stood back then, the reward system doesn't engender finding sheperds.

Just my 2 cents,
-M
