The biggest thing would be that OpenSolaris has is the name "Sun" behind it. When some people (IT departments included) see "Linux" they see just a community of programmers and hackers, corporate and basement dwelling. Sun is a big influential company and has contributed quite a bit as the other poster said, so putting it all in one distribution with the name Sun behind it may be more readily accepted by a school district or college's budgeting instead of another open-source alternative.
