Have Both
I have both and the short comings are slim but there are a few items that stand out for me. In iWorks there is not a way to use an external database like Filemaker--a user is limited to importing fields only from Address Book. That's not smart. There is not an easy way to save default settings for new documents (you have to make your own default template), and the grammar & spell checker are weak features at best.

Now to say that is not to slight Apple in their attempts to have a office suite. I've purposely uninstalled Office to make a decision on whether I would keep the iWork suite after a semester. iWorks can and does get the job done (I have been an Office user for many years and once I learned to navigate iWorks I felt like I've been using the product for years).

Microsoft Office has its quirks as well but they are minimum and that is only because I've been using the product for years. I'm conditioned to work around some things. My biggest dislike for Office is the lack of VBA in the suite. However, VBA in Microsoft's Office 2004 was not blazing a trail.

Open Office has its place and I have nothing bad to say about it. I've used it and think it is decent but years behind Office.

I'm curious to know what others think. Is one product better than the rest? Does it matter what people use as long as we can import and export to and from a common file format? I personally think that the lines are blurring and that's a good thing for consumers.

I wait to read your comments.
