Looks good (and a tip for USB thumbs)
Even the alpha is already looking pretty good. The focus has been on bug fixing and on adding reliability and stability, not on adding new and exciting features (although there are a few).

By contrast, the version after that (8.10 Intrepid Ibex), will be highly advanced and experimental. Better skip that one in Ed Tech.... happy

I am running alpha 5 of 8.04 Hardy Heron now on a test partition of my laptop. When I encounter bugs, I report them on Launchpad. There are not many, though.

Tip for USB thumb drives: before you *physically* disconnect a thumb drive, you *always* have to disconnect (unmount) it in the operating system first! It's a common mistake to overlook that. An oversight which often leads to data corruption. Just right-click the icon of the thumb drive on your desktop and select "unmount".

In Microsoft Windows you actually ought to do that as well (it's called "safely remove", click the icon in the system tray). But few people do that in Windows. Normally that's not so disastrous, because Windows writes data directly to the thumb drive. Whereas Linux waits longer.
