Do you really think Google is anything different from Microsoft?

I would say that in some ways worse (read on), but Microsoft are clearly trying to emulate their ad-based model, so there is not so much difference.

They use your own data to profile you, and then sell their ability to subliminally influence you to the highest bidder.

Ads on TV are one thing - one ad for everyone, and usually we can tell the ads from the rest. Google want to target you in less obvious and more personal ways.

Should we accept that? I'm not picking on Google specifically, I dont think anyone should be granted this power.

When you use free Google software, you could very well be surrendering you own opinions on things. Isn't that scarily close to, literally, selling your soul?
