How did we ever learn anything without personal computers?
It would be nice if I had my own chemistry/physics lab at home with all the chemicals and spectrum analyzers and I wouldn't have to go to the school lab to do my chemistry/physics lab work. It would have been nice to have a full size drafting table at home and I wouldn?t have had to stay in the drafting classroom until 11PM on many nights. There are lots of things that are nice to have, but there's no doubt that American kids today have access to some of the best equipment in the world yet they're consistently ranked low on education. The kind of lab facilities we have today dwarf anything we had 10 to 20 years ago.

Most families do have computers and there are computers that can be had for $200 with the Asus Eee coming out. You can certainly buy a full blown computer for $300 these days which was a lot easier than what you and I had to go through to get our first computers as starving students. I guess it's gotten to the point where people expect the tax payers to buy every child a $1000 to $1500 laptop. I guess when it?s someone else paying, it?s easy to demand anything to your heart?s desire. Is it wrong to criticize this kind of spending? I don?t think so but I?m sure you?ll be painted as the evil guy if you do.
