Three thoughts

Usefulness depends on webcam quality. If you got rid of your cam for a better one, figure whether the old one will be good enough.

The article mentions the dreaded word 'compile' Our friend is into Linux big time. Most people don't start recompiling kernels, because the big distributions usually have all sorts of options figured into them. Actually most people don't compile because it scares the hell out of them or they don't know how to in the first place.

So nice idea - I suggest it goes up on sourceforge or throw a bone to a special intereste group like http://en.opensuse.org/Education - then someone might wrap it up nicely as an rpm?
