We should be teaching not training
I am the library media specialist in a K-6 school about 20 miles away from Athol. At
the elementary level, i try to integrate computer activities into the regular curriculum.
My sixth graders are using PowerPoint to create persuasive essays about they like
about their school. They learn PowerPoint but are also focused on writing skills that
will transfer to other coursework thorughout their school career. That is our job,
integrate the technology into the curriculum, not teach it as a stand-alone subject.
As you said, the technology is changing so quickly, we should be focused on more
durable and critical skill development.
