well if more and more people use google apps on the web, linux should gain market share, as we will be reverting back to the mainframe - dumb terminal model of computing that we had before personal computers. Although linux workstations won't be dumb, they'll just be cheaper. Perhaps google ought to devise application software for workstations - perhaps just concentrating on linux workstations, that collaborate with their online applications.
