Ok, good. You like SUSE. This is a fairly commmon reaction. wink

As for your wireless woes, if you are at an impasse using NetworkManager, I've found going with disabling that and using ndiswrapper works nicely.

As far as guis, I am partial to KDE.

There's a lingering strong perception that Linux is 'difficult' compared with Windows--which might have been the case just a few years ago, but as you have experienced, that no longer pertains.

SUSE comes packaged as SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and openSUSE 10.1.

The former is subscription-based ~$50/yr., but have opted for openSUSE 10.1

If you are new to Linux and Novell SUSE, I think you'll be happy either way you go.

This product exceeded my expectations and I have made the switch to it entirely away from Windows, having begun my journey two years ago with SuSE 9.3 Professional (previously a RedHat gearhead).

Folks, put SLED or openSUSE 10.1 along side of Windows in a dual-boot configuration and live with it for a while, and cultivate an informed opinion--first hand.

BTW, if you opt to replace Windows entirely, remember that you can get FREE from VMWare a copy of VMWare server, into which you can install a VM of Windows--if your harddisk allows--I'd suggest a minimum of 8gigs for the vmx container.

Running VMs of Windows from Linux with VMware is very reliable and a good option to have.

OK that should do it--I think you get the idea.
